Lisa Madden, Miss Ireland Universe, recently stated in an interview that her fellow contestants at Miss Universe practiced unhealthy habits during their stay.

Madden says that pageant officials required all contestants to attend breakfast, lunch and dinner, but that some girls went out of their ways to keep from gaining weight. Madden even mentions some of the women using gauze in their mouths so that they couldn't eat solid foods.

While she did not feel the need to go to these lengths, Miss Ireland did say that she also did not feel the pressure that the other girls did. She believes that some contestants come from countries where so much is expected of them that they will do extreme things to stay thin.
