Linda Bement crowned Miss Universe 1960 on July 9th, 1960 in Miami Beach Miss Universe was broadcast nationally for the first time! Linda became the third American woman to win the Miss Universe crown. Linda originally represented Utah at the Miss USA pageant, where she took home the Miss USA 1960 crown. Linda was the second Miss Utah USA to win the Miss USA crown, the first to win without default. Linda was the first Miss Utah to compete for Miss USA and not Miss World America, and became the first and only (as of 2018) woman from Utah to win the Miss Universe crown! Linda went on to have a successful modeling career!
After her year as Miss Universe Linda taught future and hopeful beauty pageant contestants the modeling and the essentials to succeed, in her hometown of Salt city Utah! As well as dedicating her life to saving animals in need, she is described in her Obituary as being "happiest when caring for her pets and saving animals".
Linda married and divorced Manuel Ycaza, who is enlisted in the Jockey Hall of Fame. Together she had two children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Her two children were named, Manuel and Linda II.
Linda passed away on March 19, 2018, at her home in Salt Lake City, of natural causes.
