So the question I get asked frequently is, “How do I get my daughter started in pageants?” I will give you a few tools to see if they are interested and let you know how to get started.
1. Watch a pageant on TV
Have you daughter watch a pageant on TV. Is she interested in watching? Does she admire the girls who are competiting? If this is a yes then I would find a local pageant and go to the finals and watch. This will give her an idea of what to expect if she wants to get started. Pageants are costly and hard work so ensure she is interested first.
2. Decide what system to start with
There are many great pageant systems. Research them online and determine which one fits the ideals and values you would like to see instilled or grow in your daughter.
3. Enlist the help of knowledgeable people
Pageant Planet has a subscription box that comes with unlimited access to our private membership portal. For $29/month you get pageant goodies each month and the ability to ask unlimited questions to our experts.
4. Start creating her wardrobe
For many systems you will need similar things to compete:
Many systems will give examples for each category on what to wear.
5. Have headshots done with a photographer
Many systems will need a photo for the program book and some have photogenic competitions.
6. Register and Compete. Have her practice interview, evening wear and other competitions the system requires (casual wear, runway, etc..) before the competition. For this I mean weeks before not the weekend of the pageant. This will give her confidence when competing.
Good luck and have fun. Support her and cheer her on. The result may not be what you hoped for but each time you will learn something and so will she. Continue to practice just as any athlete would.
Each time you come to the “game” you will be stronger and more prepared. Before you know it her name will be called for the winner of the crown! Pageant weekend can be very busy and hectic but make sure you enjoy this. She will only be this age once! Also watch her mature as she grows as a competitor. Right before your eyes she will become more confident, mature and stunning!
Her tip is: "Remember you are fearfully and wonderfully made.”Learn More
