Miss World 2018 Contestants

Pageant Information

The Miss World Organization is said to have made a decision on where to host the Miss World 2018 competition, though no confirmation has been given by the organization itself. Word around the industry says that the 2018 pageant will return once again to China.

A very productive meeting indeed

According to Chinese media sources, last week Miss World Organization CEO Julia Morley had a meeting with New Silk Road Group President David Li to discuss the Miss World Organization's future in China. Morley and Li allegedly signed a contract for New Silk Road Group to host the 2018 Miss World pageant in China later this year. There was also a contract signed that allowed New Silk Road Group to be the Miss World China franchise holder from 2018 through 2020.

China has hosted the Miss World pageant eight times in the last 15 years, more than any other country. Many fans are dissatisfied with the announcement of the 2018 Miss World location and are calling on Morley to make sure there is variety in the Miss World host countries going forward.

"Julia, can we please have a variety in terms of host countries?" one fan wrote. "China has over-hosted Miss World, why not South America or somewhere in Africa?"

Other fans are concerned that the interest in the pageant on a global scale is just not there anymore. (Read: Miss World Announces Social Media Will Decide Top 40)

"iss world's popularity is dwindling fast," another fan wrote. "ven the Chinese do not know that their country is hosting miss world, and worse even if they know, they don't give a **** about this contest!"

Past issues make China an interesting choice

You may or may not have heard of the story of Anastasia Lin, the Miss World Canada titleholder who reigned for two years because she was denied entry to China, where the international competition was held that year. Lin was an outspoken human rights advocate who opposed the Chinese regime and alleged organ harvesting going on in China. (Read: Miss World Canada Calls for Release of Imprisoned Canadian in China)

With this incident involving the denial of a Miss World titleholder, the organization returning to China is a somewhat interesting choice. While China's choice to keep Lin out of the country was intentional and personal based on her opinions, there is no whether it could happen again with another delegate.
