The interview portion of a pageant is really your time to connect with the judges and give them a much more detailed idea of who you are as a person.  This is often the most important part of a pageant and giving an unprepared and not-well-thought-out answer can quickly send you to the back of the pack.

Is it ok to show humor or be funny during a pageant?

Of course! This is the time to let your personality shine through!  Humor is an almost universal way to connect with others and being able to give the judges or audience a good laugh can really help cement the “good impression” you can give during the interview.  Leaving the interview stage to a smiling audience and judges is a great way to stand apart from the crowd.

Of course, it is worth noting that not every pageant question deserves a funny response - often times you’ll be asked serious questions by the judges, and injecting humor into these situations can often make you appear callous or appear as if you don’t really care about the issue. 1. Describe yourself in terms of pizza ingredients.

Example: I’m a spicing sauce pizza with a lot of cheese because my personality is zesty and my jokes are cheesy. 

2. What is the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you and how did you recover from it?

Example: For me it was falling in front of my class while I was walking up to get an award. My face was a red as a tomato when I stood up but I laughed it off and walked away like nothing happened. The stumbles in life do not have to mean anything. The issue is that we give it too much meaning.

3. Tell us a joke.

Example: Knock knock. [who’s there]. Orange. [Orange who?] Orange you glad I didn’t ask you to tell a joke? 

4. What makes you laugh?

Example: Any movie with Kevin Hart in it. That man has a direct line to my funny bone!

5. How would you compete differently if you were trying to come in last place at the pageant?

Example: I would trip myself during every phase of competition and during the opening number. 

6. Which would you rather be and why? A fork, knife, or spoon?

Example: I would rather be a spoon because it is more versatile and matches my personality.  

7. How would your best friend describe you?

Example: She would say that I’m nice to everyone and always cracking jokes.  (I actually made her pee her pants a few times!)

8. What part of your body would you change and why?

Example: My hair!  I wish I had more natural curls.

9. What one word drives you crazy when you hear it?

Example: “Deserve” when others reference they deserve to have something.  None of us “deserve” anything. We all need to work hard for the things we have.  It is narcissistic (in my opinion) and carries a negative undertone.

10. Which TV character would you like to trade places with?

Example: Olivia Pope–she’s a boss lady and has the best wardrobe!

11. If you were a billboard, what would you look like?

Example: I would probably look like a law firm poster that says we’ll be there for you after an accident because I’m always there for my friends!

12. What kind of donut would you be?

Example: I would bell a chocolate glazed donut! I'm sweet, rich in flavor, and glazed with all the highlighter on me! 

13. Was Miss Congeniality right in saying April 25th is the best day of the year?

Example: I would have to argue and say September 25th is the best day of the year because I love the fall, going apple picking, carving pumpkins, and pumpkin spice lattes of course! 

14. What animal do you think best represents you and why?

Example: A panther! I love how they are more mysterious and definitely are underrated. I always like to be the underdog and move in silence because it helps me focus on myself better! 

15. What is the craziest thing you would do to meet your favorite celebrity?

Example: I would probably hike mount everest with nothing but my bare hands for a chance to get to sit down and talk to Beyonce!

16. What is a hidden talent you have?

Example: I can recite almost every single vine ever made!! 

17. If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

Example: For me, it would have to be Skyline Chili. It’s so incredibly unhealthy but it would be so worth it!!!

18. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Example: I would be the perfect yellow shade. I like to look at myself as being a “light” to other people and I help bring sunshine into every interaction I make!

19. Tell me about a time you feel you gave someone the perfect gift.

Example: Gift giving is one of my love languages!! One of my favorite gifts I’ve ever given was a cutting board with my parent’s writing engraved on it with my sister’s favorite recipe! It made my sister tear up. She loves cooking and loved having a little part of my parents with her! 

20. If you needed a ride, and using a limousine or a taxi would cost you the same amount, which vehicle type would you choose, and why?

Example: I would have to go with a limo!! Why not feel a little boujee while traveling?!
