Mallory Hagan, 23, was crowned Miss New York 2012 at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island. Hagan was competing as Miss New York City when she won the opportunity to advance to the Miss America 2013 pageant, where she would become the first of three consecutive Miss New Yorks to win Miss America.

Instead of the usual top 10 contestants being announced at the start of the pageant, pageant officials announced the top 11. An extra contestant was announced on the basis of online voting, which was a means of raising additional scholarship funding for the Miss New York State Organization.
Miss New York 2010 Claire Buffie and Hunt Ethridge, a Mr. New York 2011 finalist, served as pageant co-hosts and announced the results of the Miss New York 2012 pageant.
Judges for the Miss New York 2012 pageant included Miss New York judges included: Paul Blanco of Shelton, Conn., Barnum Financial Group; Phil Kimmi of Kansas City, judges chair for the Miss Missouri Pageant; Sean Lichty of Las Vegas; Dan McMillen of Liberty, Mo. - he placed second in "The Amazing Race," Season 2011; Deana Herrera Walker, Miss New York 1998, a Staten Island native, and Amy Hall of Manhattan, a Broadway star.
First runner-up to the Miss New York crown was Miss Manhattan, Katie Berry, however, when Mallary Hagan won Miss America she passed the crown onto Shannon Oliver, Miss Metropolitan.
Though Katie Berry, Miss Manhattan, as first runner-up had the first right of refusal, she elected to pass up the opportunity so she could compete another year.
Another fun fact is that Nina Davuluri also competed in the Miss New York 2012 pageant and though she didn't win, she would go on to win Miss America the following year.
