About Miss Southern California & Miss Long Beach

Event Details:

Date: Saturday, November 4, 2023
Time: 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM (doors open at 4:45 PM)
Location: Bay Shore Church, Fellowship Hall, 5100 E. The Toledo, Long Beach, 90803.
Miss Southern California & Miss Long Beach is an exceptional pageant event proudly presented by Justin Rudd and his non-profit 501c3 organization, Community Action Team (C.A.T.).

Ticket Prices:

Front Row: $50
General Seating: $35
Special Offer: Four General Seats for $100
(All tickets available at will-call. No refunds.)
Donations Encouraged:
For both pageant contestants and guests, we kindly request that you bring non-perishable food items such as oatmeal, peanut butter, mac n' cheese, boxed cereals, canned tuna, or Cream of Wheat to support a local food bank. Donations will be accepted upon your arrival.

Pageant Divisions:
This event is set to crown titleholders in four exciting divisions:

Teen: Ages 13-18
Miss: Ages 19-30, never married, and no children
Ms.: Ages 18+ and divorced or widowed; or 18+ and not legally married with at least one child; or age 31+ and not legally married.
Mrs.: Ages 18+ and currently married
Paid contestants can be accepted into the pageant up until midnight on the evening before the pageant day.

Entry Fees:
Entry fees can be submitted via PayPal at www.Paypal.me/justinrudd, by check mailed to "CAT," 3040 E. First Street, Long Beach, 90803, or in cash.

$100 if payment and entry form received by Oct. 21
$150 if payment and entry form received by Oct. 28
$200 if payment and entry form received by Nov. 3
Each contestant must sell at least $100 in tickets at least 48 hours before the pageant begins. Failure to do so will require a $10 cash payment on pageant day at the start of rehearsal. Entry fees and ticket sales are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Volunteer Hours = Financial Assistance:
For those with demonstrated financial need, volunteer hours at Community Action Team (CAT) events can be applied toward the entry fee at $10/hour, up to $90. Make a request with an explanation well in advance of the pageant to director [email protected] and check the list of CAT events at www.JustinRudd.com/cat.

Qualifications:

"Southern California" contestants must have a connection to Southern California through living, working, attending school, or regular volunteering.
"Long Beach" contestants must have a similar connection to Long Beach and/or be enrolled in the Long Beach Unified School District.
"Long Beach" delegates are eligible to receive both "Long Beach" and "Southern California" titles.
Contestants can return to compete for another title after sitting out at least one year following their first reign, as long as they meet the qualifications.
How Our Pageant Is Different:

No rehearsals before pageant day.
No swimsuit or fitness wear competition.
No required orientation.
No opening number or choreography, and no talent competition.
No required platforms (social issues or causes), but contestants are welcome to have one or more.
No political or religious questions from our judges.
No height, weight, or sexual orientation requirements.
We welcome unusual hairstyles/colors, piercings, eyewear, and tattoos.
No long gowns in the evening wear category.
Elements of Competition:
Contestants will participate in various segments:

Personal Interview (25%): A private 2 1/2-minute conversation with judges focusing on articulation, charm, personality, first impression, and self-confidence.
Introductions: Contestants briefly introduce themselves on-stage with facts about themselves.
Upscale-Casual Wear in Jeans (25%): Denim pants or trousers, any color, showcasing energy and confidence.
Evening Wear (25%): Attire suitable for a night out or a semi-formal party (no long gowns for Nov. 2022 pageant), judged on stage presence and poise.
Finalists:
Approximately 6-8 finalists will be announced in each division, including "Southern California" and "Long Beach" candidates.

Final Question:
Finalists will answer on-the-carpet questions/interviews from the host/emcee, focusing on speaking ability, confidence, and quick thinking.

Court:
Winners and 1st runners-up will be announced in each division of the "Southern California" and "Long Beach" pageants. It's possible for a contestant to be the runner-up for both titles.

Appearance Contract:
Each titleholder will receive a $1,500 appearance contract with Justin Rudd's nonprofit Community Action Team (CAT). Additional earnings are available based on participation in CAT events.

Prizes:
Each division's winners will receive a tiara, banner, and a free haircut/style at SWAG by Holly (to be confirmed).

Rules:
This pageant has specific rules to ensure fairness and integrity. Some key rules include:

Age requirements for each division.
Residency or connection requirements to Southern California or Long Beach.
Guidelines for married or previously married contestants.
Prohibitions against certain behaviors, including drug use and illegal activities.
Restrictions on the use of titles and endorsements.
Guidelines for second chances and forgiveness.
Policies for participation in other pageants.
Policies for on-site conduct and professionalism.
Please note that these rules are subject to change at the discretion of the pageant director.
