If you’re looking for a place to start with in pageantry you should definitely check out National American Miss. Whether you’ve competed in a few pageants before, or are new to the pageant world, National American Miss is a great way to gain confidence and experience in the pageant industry.

The National American Miss pageant has six age divisions for girls between the ages of 4 and 24 years of age. The Princess division is for 4-6 year olds, Junior Pre-Teen  for 7-9 year olds, Pre-Teen for 10-12 year olds, Junior Teen for 13-15 year olds, Teen for 16-18 year olds, and also appointed representative positions for 19-24 years in the Miss Division.

At National American Miss contestants compete in four different categories on pageant weekend, formal wear, personal introduction, interview, and community service project.

The formal wear competition accounts for 30% of the final pageant score. For the formal wear competition, National American Miss contestants choose a dress that fits and highlights her personality, and is escorted on stage by a friend or family member.

During the personal introduction, which also accounts for 30% of each contestants score,  contestants learn how to effectively speak to an audience and professionally present herself on stage. Contestants introduce themselves by saying their name, hometown, where they see themselves in the future, or something interesting about themselves.

The interview competition also counts for 30% of contestants’ scores, which entails speaking one-on-one with each of the judges. Questions don’t have right or wrong answers, but rather serve the purpose of the judges getting to know the contestants on a more personal level.

The final 10% of each contestants score comes from the Pageant Weekend Community Involvement Project. For this part of the competition, each contestant is rewarded for donating either a children’s book or school supply the weekend of the pageant. The donated items are presented to library representatives, literacy programs, schools with limited resources, and children's shelters to help them in their field work involving children. This part of the competition teaches the contestants about the importance of community involvement and how much of an impact philanthropy can have on the lives of others.

National American Miss also has an array optional contests for contestants to compete in. These include talent, photogenic, casual wear modeling, spokesmodel, Top Model Search, and actress competitions. Other competitions include Most Promising Model, Miss Personality, Miss Spirit, Academic Achievement, Volunteer Service, Art, Best “Thank You Note” To Sponsor, Most Ticket Sales, and Best Resume.
