Guyana has not had a successful track record in the pageant industry. The closest Guyana has come to winning an international title was back in 1967 when Guyana placed first runner up in the Miss World pageant.
However, in 2015, Guyana won the Miss World Talent Award through titleholder Lisa Punch.

Will we see Guyana at Miss Universe this year?
According to franchise owner Jyoti Hardat, Guyana will not be participating in this year's Miss Universe competition due to the "nasty emails" that the Miss Universe Organization received last year resulting from the controversy of last year's Miss Universe Guyana delegate.
Last year, Hardat was accused of running a rigged pageant in New York.
“I left the organisation since last year,” Hardat told Stabroek News from New York. "I was no longer going to foot the bill and face defamation of character. I spent so much over the years trying to build something and people keep trying to crumble it."

Will Guyana ever be allowed to participate in Miss Universe?
In January of this year, Hardat was informed that regardless of who the franchise owner of the pageant is, Guyana will not be welcome to participate in this year's competition. According to Hardat, it was due to “the way people acted, all the hate mail received.” She also explained that death threats were sent to the organization as well as to herself and last year's titleholder.
The Miss Universe Organization is seeking other countries to take Guyana's place in the competition this year. It seems as though the Miss Universe Organization is slowly starting to break away from their relationship with Guyana.
Hardat was a contestant in the Miss Guyana Universe Pageant in 2014 before becoming the franchise owner. She wanted to use the Miss Guyana Universe pageants as her platform to empower women in her country, but she admitted that the girls did not seem dedicated or prepared. It seems like this is the end of her pageant journey as a franchise owner.
