I initially started competing in pageants as a way to practice my talent (dance) prior to an upcoming competition during my senior year. My dance teacher was a director for a local Cinderella Program preliminary and thought that it would be a good idea to put my dance solo onstage with my costume so that I would know what to expect when I got onstage for the dance competition. I found that I enjoyed pageantry, especially with the opportunity to earn scholarships and develop interviewing skills, in addition to simply being onstage. From this local preliminary, due to the fact that I knew I would not be competing in dance competitions forever, I found a new passion and hobby that which I could devote my time and attention.
