Mayo was born and raised in Minot, Maine. She is currently a junior at the University of Southern Maine where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Media Studies. After graduation, she hopes to attend the New York Film Academy to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts in Communications and Media Studies. She wants to eventually enter into television to pursue a career in television production.
Mayo competed for the title of Miss Maine for the first time this year. With only five contestants, local titles were not awarded.
Mayo achieved her dream of being able to walk on the Miss America stage when she was crowned Miss Maine 2018 on June 23, 2018 at Freeport Performing Arts Center in Freeport, Maine.
As Miss Maine, Mayo wants to raise money for Children Miracle Network Hospitals and be able to raise awareness for her personal platform, “Love Doesn’t Hurt” across the state. She founded the organization at the University of Southern Maine. She has hosted several events for her platform to helped raise money and opened up discussions on how domestic violence is affecting the state.
Mayo will compete for the title of Miss America 2019 on September 9, 2018 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
