My big brother has autism and I grew up in the waiting rooms of all the specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists. My parents wanted me to have some sort of regular life. My mom took me to dance lessons, softball, cheerleading. None of which I enjoyed. My elementary school was having a benefit pageant to raise money for the school. I asked my parents if I could compete, they promised me I could compete next year. Next year came and I held them to their promise but my problem was I had broken my arm and was in a cast. My orthopedic doctor changed my cast to match my dress and I won best dress. I compete now because I love meeting people, making new friends, and enjoy all the activities the different pageant systems offer. I enjoy volunteering with different organizations, specifically Autism Speaks. I want to bring awareness, acceptance, and support for those affected by autism.
