In 1994, Lu Parker competed at and won Miss South Carolina USA 1994 and the opportunity to compete at the Miss USA 1994 pageant.
Having won all three preliminary competitions, Parker sailed into the semi-finals at Miss USA 1994. At the conclusion of the pageant, Lu Parker was crown Miss USA 1994! She became the third South Carolinian to be crowned Miss USA. Check out her crowning moment.
She represented the USA at the Miss Universe 1994 pageant in Manila, Philippines and found success there as well, placing in the Top 6. While she left pageantry after her reign as Miss USA, she returned in 2016 as one of the judges at the Miss Teen USA 2016 pageant.
After her reign, Parker went on to win four Emmys for her work in the television industry. She has also received two Genesis Awards from the Humane Society United States for her reporting of animal protection issues. She also founded Be Kind & Co. where she talks about the importance of being kind and how that helped her win Miss USA.

She was a sister of Alpha Delta Pi. She received an Alumnus of the Year award from her college. She has been given the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian honor given in the state of South Carolina, and has been recognized in the South Carolina Congressional Record twice as an outstanding South Carolinian. She wrote a book titled “Catching the Crown” The Source for Pageant Competition.
