A life long pageant personality, Lauren was raised in Florida, competing in local and state pageants. She was raised in a military family, and had a career in government, including management in Parks & Recreation, and serving in the US Coast Guard as an officer. She attended high school in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she learned Spanish and became charmed with the culture.
She worked in government for over 40 years, retiring to Florida. She served as Director of Senior Services & Veterans Office in Knoxville, TN. She was awarded the Governors Award for work with senior citizens, as well as assisting with the Gatlinburg, TN fires, in animal rescue.
She is a private pilot, pianist and singer, having studied at the Pablo Casals Conservatorio de Musica. Lauren graduated from the University of Florida cum laude, and was on the first women's NCAA scholarshipped volleyball and basketball teams.
She continued her love of sports by becoming involved with the Miami Dolphins, and being selected as a Miami Dolphin Doll cheerleader.
Having been married to a golf professional until his death, Lauren was fortunate enough to have had company with such golf greats as Jack Nicklaus, Tom Kite and Lee Trevino, hosting them at events and tournaments.
The love of detail and planning led her into a life of special events and festivals. She was on the founding board of the Ft. Lauderdale Winterfest Boat Parade, Sandcastle Sculpting Carnival, the Irish Week Parade, and the annual Air Show.
As part of the Broward County, Fl Parks & Recreation Board, she was an integral part of legislation to provide sanctuary to turtles and manatees, providing protection laws for their support.
Her vocal career included singing with the Florida Philharmonic, and being back up singer for Michael Crawford, the lead in Phantom of the Opera.
After losing her husband to heart disease at a young age, she became involved with flying, animals and senior citizens. But when one door closes, another opens. She attended her 30th reunion in Puerto Rico, and she met up with the captain of the football team, while she was the captain of the cheerleaders...and a year later they were married in Las Vegas. They have now spent 22 years together. Buz is a retired Special Agent with the FBI.
