In June 2016, Catelynn Cox competed for Miss District of Columbia 2016. She placed 2nd Runner-up for the title and won the Miracle Maker Award, Anne Kelly Volunteerism Scholarship and Miss America Community Service Scholarship.

In July 2016, Cox competed for Miss Earth United States as Miss Minnesota Earth 2016. She placed in the Top 10 contestants at Miss Earth United States 2016.

In 2017, she competed for Miss District of Columbia 2017 and placed 2nd Runner-up. She also walked away with the Miss America Serves Award, Children's Miracle Network Miracle Maker Award, Anne Kelly Volunteerism Scholarship, Spirit of DC Award, Miss America Academic Achievement Scholarship and Miss Photogenic Award.

In 2018, Cox competed for Miss District of Columbia 2018 and placed 2nd Runner-up. She also walked away with the Miss America Serves Award, The Four Points of the Crown Award, 2nd Runner-up for the Miracle Maker Award and Miss America Community Service Award.

In 2019, Catelynn Cox competed for and won Miss District of Columbia 2019 and the opportunity to represent District of Columbia at the Miss America 2020 competition.
