Oui was born and raised in Connecticut. She has been involved with the sciences since she was a child. She competed in 14 science competitions from seventh grade until she graduated from East Catholic High School in Manchester, Connecticut. Every year, she advanced to the national and even international level.

Oui knew she wanted to pursue a degree in the STEM fields and had originally planned to attend a smaller college. Then, she was offered a full ride through the Nutmeg and Stamps Scholarships to the University of Connecticut. There, she graduated with honors with a degree in environmental chemistry.

In 2016, as a junior in college, she entered her first ever pageant on a whim, Miss Greater Rockville. Much to her surprise, she won. She went on to compete at Miss Connecticut 2016 where she placed 1st runner-up on her first try.

Oui came back for another chance at the coveted crown in 2017 and placed 3rd runner-up. On her third try, the crown was finally hers.

Oui was crowned Miss Connecticut 2018 on June 9, 2018 at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, Connecticut. She will compete for the title of Miss America 2019 on September 9, 2018 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
