Augostina Mallous is Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen!
Augostina Mallous is a 15-year-old sophomore from Cape May Court House, New Jersey. She attends Middle Township High School, where she is enrolled in all honors academic courses and her school’s medical academy, while maintaining a 4.3 GPA. She is a Student Council representative, an active member in her school’s Key Club and Red Cross Club, and is a varsity football cheerleader. Her scholastic ambitions involve obtaining a Doctorate in Medicine and becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Some interesting facts about her include being a graceful klutz, being a lover of goat cheese, and being a second-generation Greek American.
Dancing is one of Augie’s passions, as it has been an essential part of her life for as long as she can remember. Augostina began dancing at the age of 3, and began competing in various forms of dance at the age of 5. She has won many national dance championships with her team, Jersey Cape Dance and Gymnastics Academy. She is also trained in gymnastics, contortion, aerial arts, piano, and voice.
She serves as a mentor for the “Precious Gem” mentoring program, as well as a big sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Augostina has held numerous fundraisers and drives benefitting the Dizzy Feet Foundation, the Love Your Brain Foundation, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, and Children’s Miracles Network.
Augostina is very passionate about her platform, “Get Ahead of the Game: Concussion Awareness”. She suffered from her own concussion in eighth grade, in which it took her seven months to recover from. Her experience taught her the relativity of concussions in today’s society, which is why she created her platform. She stresses to athletes and coaches that sitting out of one game is better than sitting out the whole season, and raises awareness to help athletes reach early diagnosis and avoid further or recurrent damage.
She began her Miss America journey as a preteen. She won her first outstanding teen local pageant when she was a very inexperienced 12 year-old. Three years later, she won the job of Miss New Jersey’s Outstanding Teen, as well as the talent and photogenic preliminary awards.
Some of Augostina’s other accomplishments include being on Honor Roll, as well as receiving “Outstanding Achievement” awards for her success in the arts. She received a proclamation from Mayor Clark, where he proclaimed December 6th, 2016 as “Augostina Mallous Day” in her hometown of Middle Township. She also received a Joint Legislative Resolution from Senator Van Drew for her volunteerism and accomplishments.
