IJM is a well organized pageant system with great state and national leaders. Events run on time, communication is clear and the caliber of competition is high. It's not a pageant where you're going to get a lot of hand holding on stage pattern and how to stand up straight. At IJM you're expected to be at the top of your game. Some kids weren't even there yet when the producer was rudely barking at everyone to get into line. 2. The pageant does not follow its own rules. Excuse me, guidelines. Flash eyelashes are acceptable in the youngest divisions. Since when are false eyelashes light, natural stage makeup? Nikki explained away the junior divisions' no-makeup-for-interview rule by saying that they would overlook any girl in makeup because prior to interview (3-5 hours PRIOR) the girls were in full makeup for the opening number video shoot. Three hours isn't enough time to wash off makeup? Nikki said points would be deducted if the girls didn't follow the walking patterns exactly. One girl that did extra turns, etc., placed in the top 5. Nikki explained that away by saying that a girl wearing a gown with a train would need to do bigger turns. That's not what happened at all. 3. You hardly get any stage time, both in prelims and especially finals, compared to other systems. At finals, other than a quick "I'm Jane Doe, your Miss Yahoo Princess" if you don't make top 15, you spend the next hour and 45 minutes in the top balcony. Literally out-of-sight, out-of-mind, but for the 10 minutes Nikki came up to the balcony (which I give her credit for that). Other systems let the girls at least do a final walk in their formal wear at the finale. I won't comment on results because judging is subjective, and I don't want to take anything away from the new queens. Last two things: Sponsors are given a lot of importance, to the point that you question if there isn't some impropriety there. The producer of the show also runs a quite busy consulting and styling business. We used both her consulting and styling services, but if we hadn't I would be questioning the fairness of the IJM producer working with delegates for the very pageant she is producing. There is a LOT of pressure to get the right wardrobe (I.e., expensive, custom), the best hair and makeup providers, the best coaching, etc. This adds up to lots of dollars, with the odds of getting anything in return - even some fun parties - very low.Show less

The girls that compete are not just a number, every single contestant is important, and the staff makes sure of that. This pageant is also one of the fairest I've been a part of, and that is very refreshing coming from someone that has been doing pageants for 9 years. I recommend the IJM system for anyone. It has made such an amazing impact on my life, and is so near and dear to my heart. This system has given me hope, a voice, and the opportunity to share my platform around the world.
