The first impression a contestant gives a judge is not the interview room; it is actually the headshot a contestant hands in with their paperwork! 5. Miss Newark, Chelsea Bruce
The background can make or break a headshot. The brick especially is huge risk. It is a very commanding background and can take away from the contestant, however, Chelsea pulls it off.
This can be attributed to a variety of factors. First off, her top has a beautiful print that is a very stark contrast to the red brick. It keeps the attention on her and not the background.
The angle of the light is also a huge plus. It hits directly of her cheekbone, which defines and pops them out in the photo. The shadow created by the angle darkens part of the brick to bring balance to the entire shot.

4. Miss Wilmington, Rebecca Gasperetti
Rebecca chose a stellar color for her headshot. The royal blue top is a perfect contrast against her chocolate hair and eyes. Her fair skin is also complemented by the jewel tone.
The angle is very fun and youthful and her smile is so bright. The overall vibe of the photo is warm, welcoming and a great first impression for the judges. (Read:

3. Miss Dewey Beach, Sophie Phillips
The blue background was a great choice for Sophie's headshot. Unlike a traditional black or white background, Sophie chose this powder blue background to complement her auburn hair and black top.
Sophie would have gotten lost in a black background considering she chose a black top. A white background would have washed out her beautiful skin and hair. The blue adds enough contrast to grab attention and accentuate some of her best features as well as her killer smile.

2. Miss Brandywine, Jenna Hitchens
Jenna's eyes are the star of the show in her headshot! Her beautiful pale blue eyes contrast perfectly with her chocolate hair and fair skin.
She was also smart to choose a darker shade of blue in her top to complement the light shade of her eyes. The big gold earrings add just enough interest while drawing attention to her face.

1. Miss Diamond State, Rachel Buckler
This is an absolutely gorgeous photo. Rachel nailed every aspect of a good headshot. Her top her a great shade for her skin tone and hair color. The single pleat adds just enough detail to be formal enough for a headshot.
The slightly heightened angle is also great. It shows off her enviously long hair while adding height to her slim frame. Her smile is beautiful and super white against the black background. Overall, this headshot is a great way to leave a positive impression on the judges. (Read:
