About Miss Central Square Apple Festival

35 years ago the dedicated ladies of the Lioness Club of Central Square (a non-profit) decided to host a community Apple Festival to raise funds to support community programs and education. The festival started out as a small event held in Goettel Park on US 11 in Central Square. Within a few years it became so well attended that the club invited other community non profits to participate. The Apple Festival continued to grow both in size and attendance and in doing so, outgrew the small park. Through a generous partnership with another local business - the festival moved to the Brewerton Speedway and became the weekend event attended by 20,000+ and the funds raised are then redistributed to the community through programs of scholarship, emergency displacement, camps for special needs and many more which you can read about on our projects page by clicking this link. http://www.centralsquareapplefestival.com/projects.htm
In 2013 The Lioness Club of Central Square decided to add a Miss Central Square Apple Festival event. What began with 17 young ladies and “Little Miss” contestants has grown to the Miss New York and Miss America qualifying scholarship pageant of today. The young ladies who meet the age and other standards for entry compete in the areas of talent, evening wear, fitness and interview. The pageant is held at a suitable off-site location the Friday evening of the festival weekend and the crowning takes place Saturday morning at the festival. The Miss Central Square Apple Festival then spends the next year representing the Lioness Club of Central Square at events, supporting the Miss America charity of choice, which is the Childrens Miracle Network, as well as her own platform initiative. She will also be engaged in other media appearances as she prepares to compete in the Miss New York Scholarship Pageant the following June. It is a serious commitment, but extremely rewarding!
The Lioness Club of Central Square is proud to foster and mentor young women as they pursue their education and dedicate themselves to their chosen platform of service back to their community.
