Greetings,
I'm Sonya Z. Phillips, a native of Virginia Beach, VA. I graduated from Old Dominion University with a BS in Biology and International Business. I am the Fashion Designer and Owner of Stretch Couture, a custom clothing & costume business that also teaches sewing lessons. l started my business as a self taught seamstress that needed something different that I couldn’t find in the stores. I have since studied under Marc Jacobs and have also showcased Stretch Couture during NYFW.
I spend a lot of time doing community service. I am a mentor with Envision Lead Grow, volunteer with Sickle Cell Family and Peer Advocates and volunteer with many other organizations. When time permits, I love to travel and shop for books that I will someday have time to read on a tropical island.
I am currently your Ms. African-American Culture Galaxy 2020 and Ms. Virginia Beach American Nation. I want to be the next Ms. Culture Galaxy International because I believe in building collaborative partnerships between diverse people and empowering youth through entrepreneurship in a global market. I know that as the next Ms. Culture Galaxy I could continue to do that on a larger platform and empower women everywhere to live their dream regardless of size, shape, color or culture!

A friend invited me and I saw it as an opportunity to showcase my fashion design skills and grow my brand Stretch Couture. I also felt it would help me to bring attention to my efforts to empower youth through entrepreneurship.
