Alot of people have been wondering why I am doing a pageant, so I figured I would shed a little light on my goals and determination to competing in pageants . All throughout my life I have been faced with challenges that I have worked hard to overcome. When I was little I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and auto process learning disorder. The doctors told my parents that I would never graduate with a high school diploma. I was severely bullied and shunned because I was different. My parents worked hard to help me see that anything was possible with hard work, determination, and a relationship with God. In addition, I also had some amazing friends and teachers who helped support me and keep my head up through the hard times. Despite all odds, I graduated with a diploma and I am now married to an amazing husband who is in the Army. I love traveling to different places with him, but here recently I have been wanting to give back to the community in a unique way.
The Amerfiest Pageant system is a multi-level christian based pageant that gives back to the community year round. Each contestant/crowned winner has their own individual platform and spends time volunteering for the community. I want to not only volunteer for the community, but also show others like me that Dyslexia does not have to slow you down. These virtual pageants I will compete in Interview, Introduction, fun fashion, and formal wear with an on stage question.
The Amerifest system has a motto that I am absolutely in love with: "It's More Than Just" To me, it's more than just a crown and sash. Its about the voice that this system will help me grow, and about the people who will benefit from it. I know how it feels to be DISHEARTENED by dyslexia. This disorder has taken a toll on both my confidence and self-esteem, as well as my ability to perform everyday tasks.
With my platform "Defying Dislexia" I want to prove to myself and others around me that anyone can overcome even the most difficult battles!
