As one of six girls in her family, Adanna is passionate about empowering young women. She mentors girls in my school and the local community. In the fall of 2016l, Adanna executed a co-op placement in the women’s health unit at Rouge Valley Ajax Pickering Hospital. The placement included patient education sessions and a breastfeeding support group immersing her in an environment of women helping women. In the summer of 2015, Adanna traveled to Tanzania with Me to We and experienced first-hand the important roles that women play in the sustenance of their communities. These experiences inspired Adanna to launch Crimson Wings in 2017, an initiative that donates feminine products to shelters in Durham.
Adanna has played key roles in coordinating and facilitating the “In The Know” and the “And Still We Rise” conferences. These events assist youth in the community by exploring social issues and providing networks and resources for support. Adanna takes pride in her involvement with such community efforts. These experiences have extended my leadership skills inspiring her to pursue further projects that will positively impact her peers.
A prolific performer, Adanna was part of an award-winning a cappella group and has performed in many theater productions. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater and a subsequent degree in nursing. her message to young women is to follow their passions and to know that their goals are achievable even if the path ahead is not conventional.
