Why start competing in pageants

I starting competing in pageants to prove to myself (and others) that I could do it. I had been told that I was not pretty enough, smart enough, or outgoing enough to be successful in pageantry. I entered my first pageant to show others that I could do it and ended up placing in the top 15. This pageant really helped my self-esteem and I found that I actually loved competing.
