On March 30, 2018, I was crowned Mrs. Northeast Mississippi Magnolia State. I will be competing for the title of Mrs. Magnolia State in Vicksburg Nov. 16-18th. Follow my journey for the crown here!
A little about me:
I am originally from Iuka, MS and graduated from Tishomingo County High School. After attending Northeast MS Community College for 1 1/2 years (Go Tigers!) I graduated with a Bachelor’s in English Education in 2003 from Ole Miss. (Hotty Toddy!) I am the senior staff assistant at the Gertrude C. Ford Center at Ole Miss. I am two weeks away from a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education & Student Personnel at Ole Miss.
I married Ken Hanks on December 30, 2000. We had a whirlwind romance, getting engaged 3 weeks after meeting! We got married exactly 7 months after our first date! We have 2 amazing and awesome sons, Alex (age 16) and Noah (age 13). My husband teaches 5th grade history at Charleston Middle School and is the pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Oxford. Alex is home-schooled through Gateway Christian and enjoys anything to do with cars. Noah is an 8th grader at Lafayette Middle School and lives and breathes football. We live in Abbeville, just outside of Oxford.
In my (very limited) spare time, I enjoy traveling, camping, cooking, reading, and playing the piano. I am the pianist for the early service at the First Baptist Church of Abbeville, as well as the pianist at Bethel Baptist Church. My husband and I have recently started hiking and are having a great time exploring nature and working out. Both of us underwent gastric sleeve surgery last year in order to begin losing weight. I have currently lost 75 pounds. Becoming healthier has given me the courage to pursue the title of Mrs. Magnolia State.
