Why start competing in pageants

I started competing in pageants as a teen contestant to amplify a message of acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community. After placing in the Top 10 my first time competing in Miss Connecticut's Outstanding Teen, I left pageantry because I was being victimized by sexual violence at school. Eight years later, I've returned to pageantry to advocate on behalf of my younger self who did not have a voice, to make critical connections with my community in a time of political uncertainty, and amplify my social impact agendas which promote messages of justice for all.
