I cannot change the world, but I am adamant to make a difference in the community.
I am Melize du Plessis, 13 years of age and living in St Winifreds, Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. I attend Kuswag Combined School as a Grade 7 learner and prefect for 2019.
My schoolwork keeps me busy, but I do my utmost to regularly assist those in need, for instance the little one being bullied at school or the elderly and the sick, mostly the ones who find it difficult to cope. A visit to old aged homes and hospitals with a small keep-sake or a one-on-one confidential talk, gives me satisfaction.
It gives me pleasure to protect victims, whether human or in the animal world. I need to see fair treatment to all and I dislike intimidators and bullies. Nobody is better than another when it comes to the inner-self, therefore I promote self- and mutual respect – this is besides using opportunities to raise funds to upgrade the community.
My motto in life is: "It is not about the getters, but it IS about the givers". I hope to become a child or educational psychologist one day as this path will give me the opportunity to fulfill my desires, getting involved in the community’s family needs, protecting children and making a difference to individuals.
