I have been blessed to be a part of National American Miss since its inception and have known Steve and Kathleen Mayes since I started competing in pageantry in 1994. As a pageant coach, I have the opportunity to travel across the country and see events produced at the local, state, and national levels. Hands down, NAM is the best. I have experienced this system as a contestant, title holder, judge, and this past year as a parent to a first-time Princess contestant. Witnessing my own daughter's growth in confidence and love for both the stage and the NAM experience has given me a whole new perspective on the system. I am forever grateful for all NAM has done for me and am ecstatic that now my daughter gets to experience the magic as well. Kudos, NAM! You'll always have a place in my heart!!!Show less
Hosting a pageant during a pandemic is difficult enough for any national pageant team. However, NAM is not just any pageant. While keeping the safety of every contestant, judge, staffer, crew member as the highest priority, NAM executed a pageant that has changed the lives of 700 girls across the country and continues to stand by its mission towards growing the confidence of young leaders, something that is more needed in 2020 than perhaps ever before. When I started NAM in 2013, I fell in love with everything about this organization. But an organization is only as powerful as what it represents and who it serves. Luckily, NAM is an organization that represents and serves a cause so needed and so powerful in this increasingly connected and globalized world. “She is a girl with dreams. She is a girl with a purpose. She is compassionate. She is today’s girl. Yes, folks, that is right...She is... National American Miss.” Excitement. Nerves. Gratitude. Until NAM, I didn’t know one could experience all three emotions at once - let alone experiencing that indescribable feeling of abundance and joy every single time they stepped out on that iconic NAM stage. For me, those words are so much more than words – they are a reminder to always serve something greater than oneself and a cue to never lose what makes you special in that process. Seven years ago, I heard those words for the first time as a young insecure and unsure teenager. At that time, I remember feeling ashamed of my Punjabi Indian heritage and heavy accent, embarrassed by my clinical speech impediment, and unworthy of my dreams because of what I understood about expectations for success from society. I never believed I could change the world or become a role model, for even I was unconfident in who I was. NAM entering my life right at that critical time changed my life’s trajectory. I learned that instead of shaming myself for my dissimilarities, embracing my unique attributes empowers me to be confident and courageous. I learned that my voice is my superpower and using it can inspire countless others to do the same. I learned that NAM is about empowering girls and women to allow their inner beauty to radiate wholly and challenging them to never lose conviction in their gifts. Believing in my dreams, using my gifts, and constantly striving to serve something greater than myself has enabled me to do more and more importantly, to be more. NAM has taught me skills like public speaking, presence, elegance, how to be the best version of myself every day, and how to showcase that to those around me. Now, I serve as a National Queen in what I strongly believe is the best pageant system in the world and it is an honor I will carry with me for the rest of my life. NAM and the lessons I have gained from it have become an integral and vital part of how I show up in the world – from my academics to my dreams to my public service engagements. From winning the world’s most prestigious academic award the Rhodes Scholarship to establishing my own nonprofit to empower women survivors to transform pain into power, NAM has provided me with tools to make a difference, skills to serve those around me, and memories to last a lifetime.Show less
National American Miss is an amazing system. Even for the novice in pageantry they offer lessons and classes in an easily accessible format. We enjoyed every moment of our experience. They offer opportunities for building confidence and public speaking. We are grateful for everything we learned and continue to learn through the NAM system
I have been National American Miss since I was 10 years old. This was the pageant system that I have grown up in. I will forever be grateful for the confidence and amazing experiences I have had through this system. I would literally look forward every summer to the AZ pageant. I have attended NAM nationals twice and both have been incredible experiences where I made incredible friends.
