Richard Mathis specializes in artistic environmental portraits. His work evolved from award-winning landscape photography. The prestigious Art Galleries and Artists of the South magazine featured Mathis an Emerging Artist. Curators from the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Columbia (SC) Museum of Art have judged his work top awards in multi-disciplinary art shows. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Scienes has showcased his work in an one-man show.
Drawing upon his background as a landscape photographic artist Mathis has expanded into working with models and pageant contestants such as Miss North Carolina, McKenzie Faggart. Mathis also shoots Native American pageants and powwows.
Mathis loves doing environmental portraits, both indoors and outdoors. He is known as a master of colors and blending lights in order to showcase the subject in the best possible light.
Models enjoy working with Mathis and find the experience fun and inspirational. Mathis works closely with models to understand how they want to look and to be seen. He gets ongoing feedback during the session to ensure that the subject is absolutely satisfied with the results.
Mathis works primarily in North Carolina and Tucson, Arizona. He is willing to travel.
