Annika Vernon, a student at Jamestown College and native of Hazen, was crowned Miss James River Valley 2014. She is the daughter of Kent and Tammie Vernon. Jacky Arness, daughter of Dr. Richard and Amy Arness, a student at Bethel University, and native of Fargo, was crowned Miss Peace Garden 2014. Cara Mund, a student at Brown University, native of Bismarck, and daughter of Doug Mund and DeLora Kautzmann Mund, was crowned Miss Fort Abercrombie 2014. These three ladies will compete in the Miss North Dakota Pageant in June 2014 in Williston.
High score awards went to Cara Mund for talent, private interview and on-stage question, Jacky Arness for lifestyle and fitness in swimwear, and Faye Stromberg of West Fargo for evening wear. The People's Choice Award went to Annika Vernon. Ashley Boom of Edgeley was named first runner-up to Miss James River Valley and she was also chosen by her fellow contestants as Miss Congeniality. Stromberg was named second runner-up to the Peace Garden/ Fort Abercrombie titles, and first runner-up went to Rebecca Lebak of Bismarck. Other contestants included Kacie Chatwood of Billings, Mont. (student at the University of Mary in Bismarck), Emily Trzpuc of Kathryn, Hannah Hendricks of Fargo, Serena Buskness of Carrington, Nicole Germann of Bowman, Sierra Rath of Hazelton and Anna Larson of Jamestown.
Laura Harmon, Miss North Dakota 2013, was the master of ceremonies. Sharing in the emceeing duties and performing their Miss North Dakota talent selections were Katie Carpenter, Miss James River Valley 2013, and Cassandra Ridl, Miss Fort Abercrombie 2013.
Each contestant was awarded a $100 scholarship. The winner of the Fort Abercrombie title received a $2,000 scholarship and the winners of the Peace Garden and James River Valley titles each received a $500 scholarship.
