The United States has been reeling in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma that rocked the southern states with flooding, high wind speeds and tornados. Naturally, as these storms have had major impacts on daily life in states like Texas and Florida, they have also impacted the pageant industry.
About the reschedule
Hurricane Harvey started brewing in the Gulf of Mexico just days before the Miss Texas USA and Miss Texas Teen USA pageants were set to take place. The pageant organizers held out as long as they could before canceling the event just five days before it was scheduled to take place.
The official statement about rescheduling the pageant came via the organization's Facebook page and said, "Due to the flood conditions in Houston, travel to and within the city is either impossible or unsafe. Because of this, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to postpone the Miss Texas USA pageant until a later date. I know you will have many questions, and we will do our best to answer them after the worst of the crisis in Houston has passed.” (Read full story:

Harvey made an enormous impact on residents of the Houston area as the flooding reached an unprecedented level. Titleholders like Miss Earth United States Fire 2017 Sydney Wharton and Miss Houston 2016 Logan Lester evacuated from their homes due to flooding and damage.
About the new dates
Just yesterday, the pageant organizers announced the new dates for Miss Texas USA and Miss Texas Teen USA via the official Facebook page. The statement said that the pageant has been rescheduled for January 5-6, 2017, and will take place at the Hilton Houston Post Oak Hotel.
The contestants will check in and register for the pageant during the day on Friday and will compete in preliminary competitions on Friday evening. Saturday will consist of contestant interviews, rehearsals and the final show.
Although Texas is just starting to recover from the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the state of Florida has just been hit with Hurricane Irma. There is no word yet on how the storm will impact Floridians inside and outside of the pageant community.
