About Gator Bowl Pageants

Known today as the TaxSlayer Bowl, the Gator Bowl Queen was a victim of the "Royalty Raid" in the early 1990's.

The game itself goes all the way back to 1946, and the queens go back to at least the 1951 game when 21-year-old Norma Bell was selected from the University of Wyoming, who was playing Washington & Lee in the 6th Annual Gator Bowl at the time. In 1955, the Gator Bowl Queen, contestants and former queens were featured in the Gator Bowl Program on pages 6-8. (For more information, read: 1955 Gator Bowl Program)

The 1980 Gator Bowl Queen turned up in a newspaper interview in 1994. (For more information, read: Reluctant Gator Bowl Queen Recalls Her Reign)

The 71st TaxSlayer Bowl will take place on January 2nd, 2016 from Jacksonville, FL when Georgia faces Penn State at 12pm Eastern on ESPN.
