Teeth, whether bright and white or yellow and discolored, are one of the first things people notice about others. Teeth can be an indication of one's health as well as a marker for a person's hygiene routine. In addition, having a bright smile can add to your total confidence as a pageant queen. Who wouldn't want to have a beautiful smile with sparkling white teeth? Sadly, many girls believe that expensive whitening treatments are the only way to achieve a picture perfect smile. However, there is great news ahead! Listed below are five ways to naturally whiten your teeth in order to create a pageant winning smile!
1. Add Bronzer
There are times when you may be in a hurry and actually whitening your teeth may be not be an option. Thankfully, there are ways to give the illusion of whiter teeth for a short period of time! A makeup technique that can make your teeth look brighter is wearing bronzer. Bronzer provides a greater contrast between your skin tone and your teeth, which gives the illusion of brighter teeth. When choosing a bronzer, be sure to stick with one that has a matte finish. By blending a matte foundation or bronzer under your cheekbone and down the sides of your nose in a shade darker than your skin tone you can contour the shape of your face to enhance your smile. Apply the bronzer in the shape of the number 3 alongside your face including your temples, the hollows of your cheeks, and your chin and get ready to revel in the difference! 2. Wear Cool Toned Lipstick
You can also give the illusion of having a brighter, pageant winning smile by wearing cool toned lipstick. Choose a red lipstick with blue undertones to instantly make your teeth look whiter. Blue is a cool undertone that is the direct opposite of warm-based tones such as orange or yellow. Wearing a blue based color on your lips will help counteract any yellow color within your teeth, which in turn will make them look whiter than they actually are. In addition, wearing slightly tinted blue or purple lip gloss can truly create an optical illusion of your teeth being brighter. The color of teeth is naturally a cool tone. Therefore, the gloss acts as a frame illuminating them. On the other hand, rocking an orange based lipstick will serve to highlight any yellow in your teeth.
3. Coconut Oil
Oil pulling is an age-old remedy that uses natural substances to clean and detoxify teeth and gums. Thankfully, coconut oil has the added effect of whitening teeth naturally. Studies have shown that coconut oil can also be beneficial in improving gums and removing harmful bacteria that live within your teeth and gums. Essentially, oil pulling is pretty much a high quality organic oil that when used as a mouthwash can truly help to cleanse the mouth. The oil is able to cut through plaque and remove toxins without disturbing the teeth or gums. Simply put a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it between your teeth for 5-20 minutes. Or, add a few drops to your toothbrush and simple brush it on, or add the coconut oil to a corner of a clean wash cloth and rub it on. You will be astonished by the difference in the color of your teeth after just one time! (Read: Can Coconut Oil Solve Your Beauty Ailments?)
4. Coat your teeth with Vaseline
Pageant girls know this trick all too well! Coating your teeth with a thin layer of Vaseline can keep food and drinks from staining your pearly whites! Sure, it may feel a little bit weird at first but you will rejoice when you are reassured that your morning coffee won’t be doing a number on your pearly whites.
5. Strawberry & Baking Soda Toothpaste
Dentists tell us that we should brush after every meal, but sometimes it is just not possible. The alternative? Eat strawberries for dessert. The delicious red fruit has a high percentage of folic acid which naturally exfoliates and cleans your teeth. You can also create a natural whitening toothpaste by smashing a couple of strawberries and mixing with a very small percentage of baking soda. Baking soda is composed of a chemical compound that makes it a great mild abrasive. This abrasive quality is what effectively removes surface stains from your teeth while in turn making them appear whiter!
Caution: If you are considering using this method to help whiten your teeth, be aware of the possible side effects. With continual use, large amounts of baking soda can cause damage to the natural enamel of your teeth. In addition, baking soda doesn’t contain fluoride which helps to strengthen teeth and prevent dental cavities. Therefore, using regular toothpaste should still be a priority.
